I never thought I'd do a festival again! After five years with East Liberty Alive (which later became E-fest) and 20+ years of promotions between Kaufmann's, KQV, WDVE, KDKA, ELPC, ELDI, EDGE and others, I thought I'd settle down on the bench of grateful obscurity. I wasn't really looking for any more big projects. But it wasn't to be. I made one serendipitous error: I shot off my mouth at a meeting, which is usually how you get a "job" you didn't ask for. And as we all know, once the call is made, when the people are great and cause is good, and when the potential coolness looks just too good to pass up--you will find yourself wanting to join the fray all over again. Never mind that you don't make a decent wage, or get a good night sleep, or even (some days) remember your name. It's all for one thing--The Arts! I've dedicated my life to it, and I've been blessed to work with people who have that same dedication. And we're making the magic happen again. The Little Quilt that Could...TKS to Red Bull!

I got the memo! Steve Dempsey of Red Bull, Inc. has notified me that my art has been accepted for the National Red Bull "Art of Can" Exhibition to be held in Washington, DC in October at Union Station, one of the most beautiful and historic sites in the country! The title of this work is "Bull as Folk." The quilt now has a life of its own, and is being photographed for future publicity. The question is: Will it send me a postcard?

The Black Street Boys

As an Art Instructor for Elena Houlihan's Black Street Garden Project, I had the good fortune to work with a group of spirited young men, doing community service. I believe doing art really changed them. One young man said to me, "Wow! I never thought it would be a woman, that would teach me how to use a hammer." That was one of the weird and the wonderful moments that permeated one of the most fulfilling assignments in my salvage career.

Does that phrase give my age away? Maybe, but I'm also going to be giving away lots of great things: humorous stories, invites, fun facts and art info you might not get anywhere else. Here is a sample of my work via photo taken by Susan Constanse, my friend and studio mate in a rag-tag, but awesome warehouse deep in urban Pittsburgh not far from our downtown. This piece was in a Women of Vision's Show, a group of terrific artists who just happen to be the same gender. I also belong to other orgainzations (get that from my profile, if you must), but mostly I just do what I do, because I love art and can't throw anything away. It was during a residency at Construction Junction, that I became completely addicted to junk, recyling and green artistry.

My mission-- if you want to call it that-- is just to talk about art, meet artists, and to inspire and be inspired. Let's talk...let's write!
